The evenings are starting to turn in earlier, as if they're getting tired of daylight, slowly shutting their eyes and slowly letting in the dark.
Now, the lamplights come on, and the streetscape resembles something out of a movie scene you would see in the darkened cinema, a little distant, a little unreal. You would wish for a dash of drizzle, just to finish off the picture with a token cinematic denouement.
And then, the cold. The evenings bring the cold. Autumn is almost coming to an end, and the puffs of vapour you exhale as you walk home after yet another day pirouette and disappear into the neat rows of lit-up air, precursors and a preview of the winter that is soon to come.
